Kwanzaa
December 26 – January 1
Kwanzaa is the Swahili word for “first fruits of the harvest.” This week-long non religious cultural holiday is observed each year from December 26 through January 1 and centers on reflection, community, and shared values rooted in African traditions.
Originally created to offer African Americans a time to reflect on shared history and values, Kwanzaa has grown into a widely embraced cultural celebration. One that honors ancestors, celebrates African and African American culture, and brings families and communities together.
Roots 101 African American Museum proudly welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to learn about and experience Kwanzaa in a meaningful, community-centered way.
